Where it Sprung From
Turkish Airlines was founded on May 20, 1933 as State Airlines Administration or “Devlet Hava Yolları” in Turkish. It is Turkey’s national airline. The airline has been a member of Star Alliance since April 1, 2008.
Since it caters to 280 destinations, this makes it the fourth-largest carrier in terms of number of countries and places it flies to. Its main base is at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. It operates with a fleet size of 298 aircraft with a company slogan called “Widen Your World.”
Temel Kotil, its CEO, was born on December 3, 1959 in Rize, Turkey. He is an Aeronautical Engineering graduate from Istanbul Technical University and has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where he also pursued his Master’s degrees. He was appointed CEO of Turkish Airlines on April 2005.
